EXCERPTED Technology USAGE FROM Secondary School Faculty Handbook

p.34
Student Use of Technology
The computer facilities at IST exist to serve as a tool in the education of students. Students are expected to use technology in an appropriate manner and the school will therefore determine student access to such technology. Access to computers, E-mail, the LAN, and the Internet entails responsibility. The school requires all users to obey all laws in effect within the country of China and to follow the school’s behavioral expectations when using the computer facilities. Should an abuse of technology occur, the user will be held accountable for his or her actions in accordance with the school’s behavior expectations.

Academic Honesty
Academic honesty is expected of all students. Students are expected to submit for assessment only authentic pieces of work (written, oral or in any other form) that is based on his or her individual and original ideas, with the ideas and work of others fully acknowledged.

Examples of academic dishonesty include:
(a) Plagiarism: this is defined as the representation of the ideas or work of another person as the candidate’s own. (This includes, for example, copying the work of another student, or submitting for assessment a piece of work that has been downloaded from the Internet).
(b) Collusion: This is defined as supporting malpractice of another student. For example, by allowing one’s work to be copied or submitted for assessment by another student.
(c) Duplication of work: this is defined as the presentation of the same work for different assessment components.
(d) Any other behavior that gains an unfair advantage for a student such as taking unauthorized materials into an examination room, misconduct during an examination or falsifying an academic record.

Students in breach of the code of academic honesty will face disciplinary consequences within the school. Where relevant, students will also face penalties imposed by the International Baccalaureate Organization.

IST is registered with turnitin.com, an IBO-recommended organization. This enables the school to send student work for analysis.
